Fama sees RM8m sales at Terengganu pasar tani
By R.S.N. MURALI
KUALA TERENGGANU: With the opening of three pasar tani in Terengganu, the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) is optimistic of garnering sales of RM8mil from its open-market concept this year.
State Agriculture and Agro Based Committee chairman Rozi Mamat said that pasar tani operators have been enjoying about RM7mil in profits annually.
“Terengganu’s pasar tani is a success and we expanded the concept modelled after Padang Hiliran, which recorded sales of RM2.8mil in the first seven months of the year,” he said after launching a Merdeka celebration at the pasar tani here.
Rozi said that pasar tani would be introduced in Teluk Lipat and Ketengah Jaya in Dungun and Gong Badak here, and there would about 100 operators at the new sites.
Fama, he said, had set up seven pasar tani in the state with 500 operators, namely three in Besut, two in Kuala Terengganu and one each in Kuala Berang and Kemaman.
“We will identify more sites based on population and growth,” he added.
He handed out Jalur Gemilang to those attending the event.
